Children's Privacy

Family history naturally includes children. Embertree treats data about living children under 13 with special care, in line with COPPA and similar laws.
Parental consent
A profile for a living child under 13 can only be created by someone who confirms they are the child's parent or legal guardian, or are acting with their consent. This consent is an explicit, logged step — never a buried checkbox.
Never public
A living minor's profile is never visible to anyone outside your family workspace, under any circumstance. There is no public profile and no search.
Turning 13
When a child reaches 13, we notify the workspace Owner so they can continue as before or invite the young person to claim their own profile.
